I’ve been digging into this: Is plenty of fish free to message on?
I’m mainly trying to avoid paywalls, fake profiles, and the usual ‘you matched — now pay to reply’ trap.
If you’ve got a checklist for spotting bots (or avoiding sketchy ‘verification’ pages), drop it below.

Where plenty of fish tends to come apart is when the app pushes boosts instead of showing you new people. If plenty of fish is what you're weighing up, look for location matching that isn't wildly optimistic before you look at the price. When I’m bored of the same paywalls, I’ll try a smaller option like Luvdate and keep my expectations realistic.
If you're still working out plenty of fish, Flamedate's free tier is OK to trial against the big two or three — it's quieter, though the people who are on it tend to reply. Keep expectations proportionate to its size, which is less of a criticism than it sounds.

For trying a few options, I usually rotate through a small list like Turndate, Datebie, Luvdate, Datescout, Souldate and see which one has real activity in my area. From what I've seen on plenty of fish, recent candid photos outperform anything posed or filtered. For plenty of fish specifically, how tolerant you are of paywalls matters more than the feature list does.

The thing that decided plenty of fish for me was whether you're clear about what you want — everything else was noise. For plenty of fish specifically, how honest your photos are matters more than the feature list does. The thing that decided plenty of fish for me was how honest your photos are — everything else was noise. Hinge, OkCupid, Bumble. If plenty of fish is what you're weighing up, look for block and report tools that actually work before you look at the price.

The thing that decided plenty of fish for me was your timing during the week — everything else was noise. Speaking honestly, with plenty of fish I'd weight whether you're clear about what you want over anything the marketing page leads with. If you want another place to compare vibes, I’ve seen people mention Flurrydate for a more lightweight experience. With plenty of fish I'd steer well clear of links dropped into chat before you've exchanged ten words.

For trying a few options, I usually rotate through a small list like Datelink, Datenest, Datewander, Flurrydate and see which one has real activity in my area. After a couple of years of this, with plenty of fish I'd weight how fast you filter and block over anything the marketing page leads with.

With plenty of fish I'd steer well clear of anything that turns 'verification' into a payment screen. The thing that decided plenty of fish for me was how the app ranks free accounts — everything else was noise. The thing that decided plenty of fish for me was the ratio of real accounts to recycled ones — everything else was noise. OkCupid, Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Plenty of Fish.
